Daily Mystic Messages - The problem is incremental, Insanity Part 2
I’m back today with another aspect of my journey with Insanity Max 30. It’s the idea of incremental growth.
This is another simple idea. If you work hard every day, you’ll get better day by day.
In Insanity Max 30 that looks like this: If I work diligently and max out every day, each day I should (key word there, should, we’ll come back to that) I should be able to go a little longer.
In life, that looks like this: If I do the things I’m supposed to do, and avoid the things I’m not supposed to do, I should get better every day.
Let’s say you want to meditate. So each day you sit down on your special cushion, close your eyes, and meditate. Day by day, you’ll be able to extend the space between thoughts a little longer.
Simple enough, and yet anyone who has ever tried to meditate knows that’s absolutely NOT how it works, some days your mind is chilled out. Other days your mind is a chimpanzee on speed.
This might seem obvious, but the reason I’m bringing it up is because this insidious little misunderstanding about incremental growth sets us up for disappointment and discouragement all the time.
And the reason is simple. You’re a little different every day. Maybe you didn’t sleep great the night before, and you need to rest more often in your workout.
Maybe you’ve got a lot on your mind, and finding some quiet space in your head is a little more challenging.
Maybe you just made an investment in yourself or your business, so cash flow is a little tight.
If you look at growth on the micro level, moment to moment, it might looks like you’re all over the map. It might even look like you’re backsliding.
To see the true measure of growth, you need to pan out and look at it from a broader perspective.
And this is important, because staying on the path isn’t easy. So maybe you’re having a tough day, or a long week, but if you look at where you were a year ago, I’ll bet you’ll see a very different view.
Loving yourself is the journey of a lifetime. It’s best to take the long view.
