Daily Mystic Messages - From the edge...
As a musician, we had a saying in rehearsals, the director would say “from the edge”, and that meant back to the beginning, the edge of the page. Sometimes we'd be almost through the whole piece and then, “from the edge”, and we'd all kind of groan about it. Sometimes we'd finish the whole piece and he'd say, “From the edge”, and we'd groan even more. But every time, we got a chance to put together the pieces as a whole and to refine all of the little nuances.
Now flash forward many years, and I was in India studying philosophy, and I was blessed to be there when they were finishing a text that they had been studying for about a year. When they were done, they went back to the beginning to read and chant the first verse again and I thought this was the most beautiful thing because it was symbolic of the idea that they were always learning.
There's always another layer of understanding to be revealed.
It also honored how far we had come, reflecting on where we started and acknowledging what has occurred since then. This is an important practice because we are so often rushing off to the next thing without acknowledging how far we've actually come or what we've accomplished. We either ignore or diminish our wins and our progress because we maybe haven't gotten all the way to our ultimate goal, or we're just too busy to take the time.
